159T Steam Turbine & 129T Generator - River Thames
ALS recently coordinated a barge movement using a 400T floating sheerlegs crane to deliver 1 x 159T Steam Turbine and 1 X 129t Generator by river.
Originally the delivery of both items was to be carried out by road however due to problems encountered prior to delivery with a weak bridge on the site access, this was no longer possible.
ALS was requested by the client to find an alternative route into the site, after it had been determined that there was no other road access available.
The solution provided by the ALS team was to provide a 400T capacity floating sheerlegs crane which was able to use its shallow draught and 35m outreach capability to deliver both of the heavy pieces at the top of the Spring tide from the River Thames directly into the jobsite.
The operation was successfully concluded on schedule, within 3 working days, including a night loading between 02:00hrs and 04:30hrs from road to barge at Erith.
